Irene Evelyn (Truitt) Finnigan
Irene Evelyn (Truitt) Finnigan, 94, a longtime Chelan resident, died Dec. 6, 2012.
She was born Dec. 21, 1917 in Grande Glaize, Arkansas to Gracie Lee (Wilson) Truitt and Joseph Frederick Truitt. They moved to Malaga, Washington in February 1918 and she attended Malaga Grade School and then Wenatchee Junior High and High School. She married Phelan JamesFinnigan on Nov. 2, 1934 and Jim died July 27, 1958.
Irene was a waitress in Chelan for 39 years, starting at Campbell's, then John Neve's Café, Mary and Jay's Café and then spent the next 15 years at (Chet's) Hugh's Steak House and retired in 1982 from the Sand and Surf after 21 years.
She was a member of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, Chelan Eagles Auxiliary #2218, and was president of the Chelan Eagles Past Madam President's Club for nine years.
She is survived by her sons Michael Finnigan and wife Kathy of Gresham, Oregon; and Fred Finnigan and wife Pat of Chelan; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her uncle Fred Wilson of Ann Arbor, Michigan and several "adopted" grandchildren in family marriages. She was preceded in death by her son, Norval Finnigan, her husband, 3 brothers, a sister and her parents.
A funeral Mass Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Catholic Church in Chelan on Friday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. with Father Ricardo, celebrant and the Rosary will be held on Thursday evening, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. also at the church. Interment will follow at Fraternal Cemetery. Services are in the care of Precht Rose Chapel.
