CHELAN -- A generous Manson woman literally put stock into the proposed Chelan Public Library.
Her $30,000 donation of stock put the Chelan library fundraising efforts over its goal. Way over. The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated Coca Cola stock, a gift that was easily converted to cash for the Friends of the Library.
She recently visited the future library and was thrilled with what she saw.
"The unbelievable space will bring dignity to the new public library," she said, calling the Masonic hall, "a grand old building." She is also excited about helping to have a part in "making dreams come true."
In January the Friends of the Library and Chelan's Library Planning Committee set a goal of $160,000 as the minimum required from community donations to renovate the former Masonic Lodge as the new public library.
That amount, plus the $490,000 CDBG government grant, was necessary to renovate the 1928 building well enough to get the doors open and start operating the public library on the lower floor of the city-owned Masonic hall.
What the donation does is move the renovation into the next phase so the renovation can include jobs necessary to finish the restoration of the building.
