Senior Center Happenings: New membership
|Submitted by Mike Torres|
Existing members should have received dues notifications through the mail and it is requested that they be returned as soon as possible with a completed membership form and appropriate dues. It is important that the form be filled out as accurately as possible so that the Chelan Senior Center data base will be up to date.
Should we fail to send you one please stop by the Center for a membership form. Those persons in the community wishing to become a member can also pay their dues at the Center. Yearly membership is $15 for a single person or $25 per couple.
For further information please call at 682-2712.
Chelan Station Re-Runs
Spring is just around the corner and many of you are looking to spruce up that spare bedroom for summertime guests and don't want to break the bank and are looking for some good deals. If this is you then you should visit the Senior Center's second hand store that has a large quantity of gently used furniture, lamps, pictures and accessories to complete your remodel. Just looking for a kitchen gadget, a good book to read, maybe a video or gift to give, then you should stop and shop Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the ever changing Re-Runs, located on the Chelan Falls Highway just before the Beebe Bridge turnoff.
Maybe you've already remodeled and have a garage full and need to get rid of it, then Re-Runs will happily accept your donation during business hours, or if you wish to have us pick it up from you contact Barb or Patty at 682-9808.
Bigger savings on 10 percent off Wednesdays.
Members please remember to get your plant starts ready for the Chelan Earth Day to be held April 20. Start now and we will have some good looking plants to sell at our booth. If you need pots to put them in please contact Mike at the center.
Seniors are you mystified by the electronic age, especially computers?
Every Monday at 2:30 p.m., Peter Stutz is offering computer classes to teach you the basics, such as sending emails to keep in touch with loved ones or maybe learning how to Skype so that you can make face-to-face phone calls.
The center has several computers and printers that offer free use for the senior membership. Not a member? For a nominal fee you can join the classes.
Those faithful members of the Monday and Wednesday exercise and fitness classes have enjoyed a vast improvement in their physical health.
Many members have improved to the point where they can get around without their walkers. The classes, sponsored by Lake Chelan Community Hospital, are open to any member of the community and are free. Friday hosts a rousing game of balloon volleyball.
All events start at 1 p.m. and last for an hour. Linda Holier, physical therapist, conducts the exercise portion and Jim Szymanski, occupational therapist, referees the volleyball game.
I've heard a rumor that Linda is planning to conduct and evening "movement" class in the near future.
Scores keep improving as the competition becomes keener. Laughter is heard throughout each session as most of the bowlers get quite silly. Join the fun at 3 p.m. every Tuesday. Bowling is open to all comers.
New faces are constantly showing up at the noon meals and enjoying healthy hot meals and some great conversation. Diners over 60 are asked for a suggested donation of $3.25 and those under 60 pay $7.50.
Look at the menu and pick the days for your favorite meals. We always look forward to the bus from Regency Manor to join us.
Meals are open to the community and you don't have to be a member of the Senior Center to participate.
Amy Torres just requests that if you are coming for the first time please notify her at 888-4440 a day in advance.
Meals are served at North Shore Bible Church in Manson on Friday.
Please contact Kathy Miller at 687-3377 to reserve a meal.
