Chelan soccer crushes
Omak,falls to Eastmont
The Chelan Goats faced a tough test last Tuesday, March 25, taking on the 4A Eastmont Wildcats at Mountain Goat Field, with the Wildcats prevailing with a 2-0 win.
Eastmont got on the board in the 14th minute of the game to go ahead 1-0. The Wildcats added another goal in the second half in the 73rd minute of the game. Eastmont had a total of 17 shots while the Goats had 19 shots, with none finding the back of the net.
"Even though Chelan was struggling with some injuries, they did a great their own against 4A powerhouse Eastmont," Assistant Coach Jim Broome said. "Chelan did a great job dealing with Eastmont's daunting attack and Chelan had a good amount of time in the second half controlling the game."
Chelan bounced back last Saturday, March 29, travelling to Omak to take on the Pioneers, with Chelan coming away with a dominating 11-1 win.
Two players recorded hat tricks for the Goats. Freshman Rafael Barajas had four goals in the 3rd, 5th, 14th and 50th minutes of the game. He also added two assists. Also with a hat trick was senior Ivan Magdaleno, scoring goals in the 12th, 31st and 33rd minutes.
Senior Ivan Montalvo scored in the 11th minute and senior Alexis Bravo scored in the 52nd minute. Junior Fausto Vieyra scored in the 36th minute and junior Juan Garcia scored in the 75th minute to round out the scoring for the Goats.
Omak scored its lone goal off of a penalty kick right after halftime. Chelan had 47 shots on goal and Omak recorded three shots.
"Chelan did a great job controlling the game," Broome said. "We really wanted to focus on our passing, spreading the field, using our outside midfielders and being solid in the defense."
Chelan has one game over spring break on Tuesday, April 1, on the road against the Brewster Bears at Brewster. Game time is at 4 p.m.
