New hospital needed
When we moved here full time in 2009, our intention was to be in the Lake Chelan Valley for the rest of our lives. It had been our plan and goal for over 30 years.
There were a number of reasons why we decided to make Chelan our permanent year around home. The quality of life and the natural beauty of the area are a given. Another is, if you have an inclination to help others, there are numerous opportunities to get involved. If your pursuit is the outdoors, the four seasons offer opportunities to enjoy all aspects.
Anywhere you decide to make your permanent residence requires certain needs. The most important of which is access to health care. Health care, to us, consists of health care professionals and state-of-the art hospitals and clinics.
We have very good health care professionals in the Lake Chelan Valley. What we do not have is an adequate hospital to serve the residents of the area. If we are going to attract additional health care professionals to the valley, which will be needed as the population of the area grows, we need a facility that can grow along with the area.
The existing hospital cannot be expanded to accommodate the area's projected growth. We need a facility that is up to date with the latest technology, allows patient privacy and the capability to expand the facility. Our current hospital lacks these essential needs.
Nothing is more important than our health care. Kathi's mother, Lois, recently spent 2 months at Lake Chelan Community Hospital recovering from a broken leg. Overall, her experience with the health care professionals was excellent. We became aware of the hospital's limitations due to her cramped room conditions, lack of privacy and constant movement between rooms to accommodate other patients needs.
Passing the Lake Chelan Community Hospital Bond Levy will provide a new hospital which meets the essential needs of all hospital patients. We hope the community will feel as we do and vote "YES" on Nov. 4.
