Dennis Gene Freer

Dennis Gene Freer passed away peacefully Friday Jan. 11, 2013 in his home that he shared with his daughter and son-in-law after an 8 year struggle with Idiopathic Interstitial Lung Fibrosis.
Dennis was the first baby born in Seattle on Janurary 1, 1943 to Bertha and Joe Vinson. Dennis moved to Manson in 1951 when he and his brother Mike were adopted by Margaret and Percy Freer after the state took he and his younger siblings from his birth parents for neglect and spending about 3 years in various foster homes and the Washington State Children's Home, Dennis always refusing to allow the social workers to separate him from his brother.
Dennis attended and graduated from Manson High School in 1962. Following that he entered the Army and was honorably discharged in 1965. He returned to Washington state and shortly thereafter and off and on through out his life, returning back to Manson and the Chelan valley. Over his life time he held many careers. An incomplete list includes a Lineman for the PUD, an autobody repairman, a chef, a cabinet maker, a forest firefighter, a projectionist at the Ruby Theatre, he owned a restaurant, he did upholstery, he did trail work for the parks service, he did tree thinning contracts for the Forrest Service, he was a cable installer, he worked for Boeing and painted trucks at Kenworth.
Dennis's favorite things included bird watching, gardening, fishing, The Lake (Lake Chelan of course), the mountains, wildlife, all animals, telling stories, the Mariners, looking things up on the internet, going to the casino, chocolate (just don't let Kasmira buy it!), Oreo's, coffee and being a Grandpa.
He is survived by his brother Michael Freer of Manson and his sister Kathy Rodgers of Gig Harbor.
His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren:  His son Scot Freer of Ogden, UT and his son Alex (14): His daughter Lisa Roberts of Kansas City, Missouri and her children:  Mathew Roberts of Ogden, UT, Jariel (Brock) Sommerville of Brigham City, UT and their children,  Taylor Wayman (12), Eriq Wayman (11),  and Kaitlyn Wayman (7),  Sarah Camancho of Kansas City, MO and her children Kacee Roberts (5) and Filliberto Camancho (2), Allorah (Troy) Veruchii of West Jordan, UT and their   children Conner(5) and Alyssa (3) and Amanda Roberts of Clearfield, UT; His son Chris (Anita) Freer of St George UT and their children Logan Freer, Samantha (Kameron) Terry and their children Gunner (5) and Xander (2 ), and Ashley Freer, his daugher Kasmira (Mark) Elliot of Manson and their son Brandon (17),  His daughter Sherry (Robert) Freer of Wenatchee and their daughters Phoenix Marine (14) and Breanna Mathews, his son Keegan (Stephanie) Freer of Burien and their children Kiara (11 ), Kylee (9 ) and Keelin (4)  and his son Donovan Freer currently of Manson.
He is also survived by his nephews Neil Freer of Vancouver, and Riley Freer of Seattle, and his niece Ronna Davis of Spokane.
He is also survived by many surrogate sons and daughters and grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  Our Daddy believed all children deserved someone's attention and time, he believed in adoption, even when you couldn't afford to do it "by the book", so there are a lot of grown children out there that called him "Dad" and  "Grandpa".
When his daughter added up all the "kids" she knew that called him grandpa, he said:
  "How cool is that?"
Donations can be made to  or  in person to Mark Elliot at Wapato Point Resort. There has also been an account set up for Dennis at Well's Fargo Bank.
A public Celebration of Life will be held Saturday Feb. 2, at 1 p.m., at the Manson Grange Hall.  The family is requesting anyone who wishes to attend bring their favorite dish, where bright colors and share their favorite story.
A private service will be held at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington  Monday, Feb. 4, 2013.
