Danna Sue (Gebbers) Guzman

Danna Sue (Gebbers) Guzman, 60, of Brewster, Wash., was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at her home. Danna was born in Brewster, to Dan and Reba (Riggan) Gebbers on June 9, 1953. She went to school in the Brewster School District and graduated with her classmates as a 12-year Senior in 1971. After graduating, she attended Eastern Washington State College for two years, before finishing her education at the Deaconess School of Nursing in Wenatchee where she earned her Nursing degree in 1975.
Throughout high school Danna worked as a Candy Striper in the local community and continued serving by working at the hospital on weekends throughout college. She worked as a registered nurse at the Okanogan-Douglas County Hospital and Harmony House. Danna's lifelong mission was to care for people. Her specialty was working with and helping the elderly and their families. She served honorably on the Brewster Flat Irrigation Board helping to ensure future water supply for agriculture in the area. She also served on the Board of Directors at The Apple House Warehouse and Storage.
She had an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. She was sincere and determined, but never complained about the cards that she was dealt. She was never afraid to express her opinion and always shared her faith. She liked to send daily Bible verses to encourage others to believe in Christ her Savior. Her home church was the Calvary Baptist Church in Brewster.
Danna was a lifelong resident of Brewster, Wash. She married Pat Thompson at Coulee Dam on December 10, 1977. She had Melanie Sue Thompson on April 8, 1979. She had twin boys, Brian Patrick Thompson and Jason Lee Thompson on June 17, 1981. She then married the love of her life Pedro Guzman, who was with her every day for 23 years. They had one daughter Reba Francisca Guzman born on August 19, 1988.
When she could attend, both she and Howard Gamble were two of the biggest fans at the Brewster sporting events, where they enjoyed sitting next to each other. She loved politics and was a constant listener of Rush Limbaugh and Don Imus. Tiger Woods was her favorite golfer and she knew everything about The Masters Tournament. She loved NASCAR and Jeff Gordon. The highlight of her NASCAR dream was when she took her sons, daughters, daughter-in-law and son-in-law to a race in Phoenix, AZ and later attended a race in Bristol, TN, where she was able to go to many of the NASCAR shops.
Danna really loved her grandparents John and Martha (Gamble) Gebbers. At the time of her birth Martha had them blow the sawmill whistle in celebration. She spent many hours with John and Martha riding horses, taking car rides, going to Alta Lake and spending time on the ranch.
When she went on family road trips Danna would get very homesick for John and Martha because she lived with them for 10 years.
Danna loved to travel with her children and her siblings.  Some of her favorite memories were the family vacation to Mt. Rushmore and various trips to Japan with her dad and siblings. She also traveled to Washington, DC where she spent time with her good friend Susan Wilson and her husband Colonel Dan Wilson, the Chief of Staff, 3rd Marine Division In Okinawa.  Colonel Wilson, at the time of her visit to the Pentagon was a Lieutenant Colonel and the Chief of the Afghanistan/Pakistan PAC. Colonel Wilson took her on a personal tour of the Pentagon and allowed her to take a few moments at the 9-11 Memorial inside the Pentagon to pay her respects to those who lost their lives that day.  She later traveled to North Carolina to see Susan and Colonel Wilson while he was the Commanding Officer of the Weapons and Field Training Battalion where he taught her to shoot a handgun on the Marine tactical field.
Danna was a voracious reader. She never was without a book sometimes reading multiple books at the same time. She encouraged her grandchildren and children to read, sometimes having them read aloud to her. Not only did she encourage reading, but also encouraged her grandchildren to explore their artistic side. She proudly displayed all of their artwork on nearly every wall of her home.
Danna is survived by Pedro Guzman, Brewster, four children Melanie Sue Wyss (Jon), Brian Patrick Thompson (LeAnne), Jason Lee Thompson (Claudia), and Reba Francisca Guzman. Six grandchildren, Nickolas Thompson, Preston Thompson, Lea Thompson, Dakota Wyss, Jody Wyss, and Reagan Wyss. Parents Dan and Reba (Riggan) Gebbers. Siblings Jody Gebbers-Crane (Peter), Mac Gebbers (Becky), Sonya Taylor (Tim), Cass Gebbers (Alycia). An older brother preceded her in death.
Private visitation will be Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 2-3 p.m. and public visitation will be 3-6 p.m. at Barnes Funeral Home, 510 W. Indian Ave, Brewster, Wash.
A funeral service will be held in Brewster on January 29, 2014 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 17 Hospital Way, Brewster, Wash. at 10 a.m. A graveside service will follow at the Brewster cemetery. Guests are encouraged to attend the reception at the American Legion Columbia Post 97, located at 102 3rd Street, Brewster, Wash. after the memorial.
