Entiat collision correction
Orondo driver charged with inattentive driving
Last Sunday morning Entiat residents were involved in a three-car accident.
Washington State Patrol officials reported three vehicles traveling north on SR 97A.
Orondo motorist Milagro Berence Tello, 36, driving a 2009 silver Toyota Rav4 failed to stop when two vehicles in front of her were stopped to make a left turn. Milagro reportedly struck Entiat resident Lynda Mertes, 67, driving a tan, 2004 Chevrolet four-door vehicle. Mertes was injured and transported to Central Washington Hospital. The rear-end collision caused Mertes to strike Brenda Lamb, 55, of Entiat who was driving a 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser.
Yakima passenger of Tello's vehicle, Juan Antonio Diaz, 41, was also injured in the collision and transported to Central Washington Hospital.
State patrol officials say the cause of the accident was inattention on the part of Tello and she will be charged with following too close.
In the print edition of this week's Lake Chelan Mirror, it was mis-reported that Mertes would be charged with following too close, when in fact it was Tello who was reported by State Patrol officials to be at fault in the accident.
Lake Chelan Mirror staff were notified of the error and thanks diligent readers for informing us of the facts. We strive to report timely, accurate information and apologize to the Mertes family as Lynda recovers from her injuries sustained in the accident.
