The Answer is Hope
By Tim Lamb
The people have lost hope...where do you go for hope?
Reddit cofounder Aaron Swartz was only 26 when he committed suicide by hanging. He had a cause, he had purpose, he had something to prove; he had fame and love; he was in some trouble - and yet the battle was over too soon because without hope, he surrendered.
Junior Seau, the former football great, had some relational problems in the past but seemed to have it all going for him. Successful in business and a respected member of the community who was doing a lot of good, yet it wasn't enough to live for.
Was it Swarts' legal issues or Seau's football injuries that led them to take this desperate path as some would like to prove? Or could it be that even with injuries and mistakes the choice to take one's life is a spiritual matter first and foremost? The spiritual aspect is ignored, I believe, because to admit a spiritual problem would be to admit the need for a spiritual fix, a faith solution, and that's just not a road they are prepared to travel. Their fear of that road is costing lives.
Several years ago I wrote a heartfelt letter to the editor a local daily paper following a story concerning the suicide of a local pastor. In that letter I contemplated the demons that must have driven this man of God to take his own life. That paper refused to print the letter sighting concern for the family, and maybe they were right. But while the whole community searched for answers in the mans troubled past the subject of spiritual influences was just to sensitive to address it seemed; though the answers sometimes lie in the places we fear to tread.
Schools demand that their state run institutions not only be exempt from discussions of faith but also isolated from its influence and those in charge cannot see the change in their students. Even in the face of school shootings, Gang violence, and sexual promiscuity, any solution that offers hope in the form of faith is soundly rejected.
Analogy: People hold on to sin like a dog holds on to a bone. You just stick your hand in there and try to take that bone and you're liable to get bit. But offer that dog a big juicy steak, or any chunk of meat and the dog will forget the bone. Christians are to busy fighting with the world over the bone when we have the most savory meat, available in abundance; Grace, Hope, and Love.
The world is looking for "bone" answers and not solving a thing; in fact matters continue to get worse. The politicos and educational leaders may call for prayer but pick at the bone pile for answers.
Look at this strange response of people in crisis and see if you don't agree on the connection.
In crisis, they call for help and protection. When the crisis has passed they blame the authorities and police for not preventing it. When it is suggested that an armed police presence would be a deterrent in the future the thought is rejected. God gets the same treatment in the same cycle: Call for help, blame, and rejection. They don't see the steak they're being offered and growl as we reach for the bone. They have their "bone" solutions involving suicide and mayhem. Ban guns and bring in more bone chewing mental health councilors and change the rules of play; all solutions with no real basis for hope.
We do not present the world with hope by the lives we live. We fret and fuss and cry and curse and accept the bone solutions, Why? Do we not believe in more?
People are not dying because of the lack of government controls and police protection they are dying because God is rejected. They are literally dying for the lack of hope.
A school teacher loses his job because he made a gift of his own personal bible to an inquisitive kid. They don't want us offering hope in the form of faith. They want us to throw the kid a bone. We find this across the board with school shootings and teen pregnancy and all that is wrong with this country. While commentators readily agree that faith is declining as mayhem spreads, to suggest that these problems are spiritual or have a spiritual/faith connection is not open to discussion.
Where there is hope and faith life flourishes. People who see purpose for their life and hope for their unborn child do not abort babies. Abortion is like a slow, continuous, Weapon of Mass Destruction.
Talk shows discuss the mental health aspects of how to deal with the "Violent Propensity" in kids today. They discuss movies and video games and exposure to guns and other violence but never consider that a child raised on the sanctity of human life learns how to deal with the "bones" of violence.
We teach our kids they are only what they make of themselves and when they reach the end of success or failure there is nothing left. Success and failure can both bring disillusionment. Young and old need to know there is more than the path they have chosen to this point. Life has value and the future holds hope. Today holds bones, tomorrow holds feasts for those in Christ Jesus.
The meat of faith is the hope and promise. Christians, you change the world with Hope. We are taught by our own leaders it is WE who are the problem. We're told any success we've had was not ours and the answer for failure is government handouts and entitlements. It's time we stop listening to those who play god and hear what the One True God has to say. We can't pull out of this mess until we get back on the path of "One Nation, Under God".
Suicide in the US military is pandemic. Suicide among the general populace has become as common as a dog bite. Shootings of less than three people seem to no longer shock us. This is more than bad diets and bad influences this is a problem of the heart and soul and until we can treat this spiritual disease with spiritual solutions we will see no improvement.
The government doesn't want a people dependant on God or guns or the strength of moral character. The want a people they can control, and by stealing our hope and the faith of our children they will accomplish their agenda.

Thank you for writing this articicle. Even now we are losing our freedom of speech and by standing up and choosing to say something, though you may not save the world, can save one soul by the truth that there IS hope left. Jesus Christ is our only hope. We need to continue to proclaim the good news of the Gospel and overcome by the blood of the lamb and our testimony. Praise God that you are being obedient and sensitive to his spirit to write what the lord commanded of you. We live in a time that every moment and every action truly do count and truly do matter, learning to live in the moment and not fret or obsess about what was or what is to come, but to be obedient, alert, compassionate and hungry for God and truth and mankind to be free from the traps and snares of the enemy by conveying the great commision and freedom we have thru christ. Hallelujah! Blessings on you and what an amazing reflection. Of course, the bible says that we are to expect persecution and we will settle for nothing less! Count it joy because of what christ has in store for those who suffer according to his name! For King and Country! Christ is our Hope, freely you have recieved.. freely, give.
