Prohibit Generic Only Plans
By Amy Nelson
Health insurance is designed to protect people and their families in case of a serious illness, like multiple sclerosis. Yet, too often, health insurance plans don't actually cover necessary treatments, forcing people to decide:
Do I go without care, or do I go bankrupt trying to stay healthy?
Some insurers are now attempting to cut back benefits even more; trying to offer a prescription drug plan that covers only generic drugs. Insurance commissioner Mike Kreidler has proposed new rules that would prohibit those insurers from offering a prescription drug plan that covers only generic drugs. These new rules would ensure that people with MS, or any other chronic condition that can't be treated with generic drugs, would have access to the brand-name disease modifying therapies they need.
We need to support Commissioner Kreidler's efforts - You can help!
