A dozen Lake Chelan Community Hospital Guild B members unrolled spools of brightly-colored lights, draping them over bushes and decorating trees, while other guilders assembled a white holiday deer and pulled a wreath over its head.

The flurry of activity signaled the beginning of the guild's annual Lights of Love campaign, which benefits local healthcare.

Donations to Lights of Love, which started in 2005, have purchased several pieces of important hospital equipment since 2005, including a neonatal oximeter for the LCCH childbirth center, an arterial blood gas meter, physical therapy equipment and TeleMedicine monitors for the emergency room.

This year's funds will purchase a rowing machine for the physical therapy (PT) department.

Excellent for those who suffer from chronic neck or upper back pain, as well as low back or hip problems, the machine will be used to supplement aerobic and strength exercise programs for PT patients.

Part of the proceeds from this year's campaign will also fund a scholarship in honor of Greta Griffiths, who died in October.
One of the first members of Guild B, Griffiths was the first director of the Lake Chelan Volunteer Ambulance Association, which later became a service of LCCH, taught First Aid, CPR and EMT courses and served as a longtime volunteer at the hospital and played a part in starting Lights of Love.

Lights of Love donations can be given in honor or memory of a loved one, as a friend to the hospital, to recognize someone for a job well done or as a special holiday gift. All donations are tax deductible, and 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to support the hospital and, this year, the scholarship.

Each of your gifts will be acknowledged, and notification is sent to the honoree or their family, if you wish. You can mail donations to PO Box 2177, Chelan, WA 98816 or visit

Guild B provided the following equipment to the hospital: Labor bed; Infant warmer; Diagnostic Lab Scanner; Rotary Vane Medical Vacuum; Computerized Treadmill; Room Updates; TeleMed Monitor; Cardiac Bedside Monitors; Wheelchair; Cautery Machine; Recovery Room Beds; Culposcope; Waiting Room Update; Bronchoscope; Fetal Monitor; Waiting Room toys; Baby Basket for New Year's Baby
