Wear red at two local events
Lake Chelan Community Hospital
You'll have the opportunity to fight heart disease, the number one killer of women, twice this coming week when Lake Chelan Community Hospital (LCCH) and Soroptimist International (SI) of Chelan both host two Red Dress events in recognition of National Wear Red Day by the American Heart Association.
The first event will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4, at LCCH as part of the hospital's new monthly Girls Night Out program. Starting at 6:30 p.m., this free Red Dress event will feature an educational talk by Dr. Brian Barstad, LCCH ER Director, about women's heart health, as well as a fashion show with clothing from Main Street Gallery in Chelan. Hospital caregivers will model the clothing while attendees enjoy decadent dessert, including cakes donated by Deb's Delights of Chelan. All attendees are encouraged to wear red! The event will be held in the hospital's Orchard Café and board room, and part of the decorations will be donated by All Season's Events.
"Lake Chelan Community Hospital is excited to partner with our local businesses to provide free Girls Night Out wellness events to women in the valley each month," said Leah Thompson, LCCH wellness coordinator. "It's a chance to promote healthier lifestyles in a more relaxed, fun environment." January's event included a talk by LCCH nurse Jane Jedwaby about reducing stress in 2014 and a meditation / relaxation workshop by Lynda Kennedy of YogaChelan. For more information about the Feb. 4 event, or to RSVP, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Celeste at 682-3300.
Just three days later, you are invited to pull out your red again at a luncheon hosted by SI of Chelan at Sorrento's Ristorante at Tsillan Cellars from noon to 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7. The event includes lunch, a guest speaker, shopping and more. The cost is $26 and tickets can be purchased online at chelanchase.com or by calling 682-0550 or 679-1585.
Soroptimist International is a volunteer service organization for women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, both locally and globally. Some of SI Chelan's many community projects include providing college education scholarships for local students and those seeking continuing education. The group also sponsors the Chelan Chase 5K Race/Run/Walk, their largest fundraiser, each October.
Proceeds benefit the LCCH Mammography department and provide free mammograms at the Wellness Place in Wenatchee.
