Counting pumpkin seeds

Students at Morgen Owings Elementary School last week celebrated Halloween by carving out pumpkins. But instead of making jack-o'-lanterns, teachers used the opportunity to give children another tool in counting. Students scooped out "guts" and seeds of pre-cut pumpkins. The focus of the activity was on Base-10 Principles. Students essentially counted by 10s to see how many seeds were in each pumpkins. Pictured here counting their seeds are Ellie Smith (back left), Rylee Hendricks (middle) and Josue Cazares.
