School board to consider increased M&O levy
Amber Schlenker
Assistant Editor

The Lake Chelan School Board is considering putting a maintenance and operations levy on the February 2014 ballot.
The proposed levy would replace the current levy, which expires at the end of this month.
District officials tried keeping the levy at the same amount as the former, but Superintendent Rob Manahan said, "...the reality of that, given the financial situation and the economics for the next couple of years, it looks like we may need to open that up a little bit more."
Due to inflation cost of living increases and other financial issues, the district is set to be behind in funds in the coming years, or be forced to cut positions and programs from the budget.
"We think we can (avoid) that by putting in about $125,000 in the levy," Manahan said.
Lake Chelan School Board directors are set to discuss the levy options at the next meeting, Dec. 10, at the school district office, at 6 p.m.
