Manson High School seeking backpacking equipment for summer course offerings
|Submitted by Manson Schools|
Manson is offering an opportunity to experience firsthand the beauty of the wilderness areas of our state while earning credits towards graduation. Manson High School is offering three field courses that will have students in the outdoor classroom for a week at a time.
Students will have an opportunity to study biology, geology, ecology and physical education in the field by participating in 1 of 3 offered field courses:
Marine Environments class where the Puget Sound Lowlands and the Olympic Peninsula will be the classroom as students focus their study on the variety of saltwater habitats.
Ecology of Alpine Lakes will study many of the lakes found in the Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness.
Natural History of the Glacier Peak Wilderness. This course has the students experiencing two areas of science; volcanology and ecological differences found on the west and east side of the Cascade Mountains.
How you can help...
The program is seeking donations of backpacking equipment to include: tents, stoves, sleeping bags, backpacks, water filters and cook pots. Used equipment is welcome, however the equipment must be "backpack" appropriate (lightweight, portable, etc.).
These courses will be taught by Manson High School teachers with the support of other volunteers and community members.
