For the Manson High School class of 2014, this is the end of one journey and the beginning of another.
These were the words of Manson Principal Don Vanderholm at the commencement ceremony for the MHS class of 2014 at the school gym last Saturday, June 7.
Vanderholm spoke about the class blazing their own trail.
"Much like the trailblazers of old, this class has chosen their path and a way for others to follow them," Vanderholm said.
Salutatorian Rubid Portillo spoke to the attendees about the memories that the class has, from memories on the playground to class field-trips to Holden Village.
"We all have different dreams and goals and not every class is perfect, but we have overcome difficulties and we are one big family," Portillo said.
Mike Steele presented the Mel Steele Memorial Award. The $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Bridger Machus.
The staff presented a video with messages from the staff giving advice to the class of 2014.
Following the video, eight ladies of the class of 2014 had a musical presentation, singing Titanium from the movie Pitch Perfect, with Johanna Ireland saying the reason for the song was because the class was bulletproof.
Machus gave his valedictorian speech, speaking about his class trying to be remembered for its success.
"We can still say that we love each other," Machus said. "Hopefully, in four score and seven years, someone will be speaking about our successes."
The class had a video presentation of the graduating students' baby photos. Manson Schools Superintendent Matt Charlton certified the class following the video, with the awarding of the diplomas presented by members of the Manson School Board.
The class then moved their tassels to the other side of their hats, signifying the class was ready to take it's own path after high school.
