FFA members from all over North Central Washington traveled to the top of Okanogan County for the District VII Leadership Camp held at Camp Tonkiwanee on Lost Lake a site that has hosted the camp for over 35 years. Members from the Wenatchee, Eastmont, Manson, Okanogan, Bridgeport, Mansfield, Tonasket and Chelan braved the downpour and the cool temperatures to come together for this annual rite of summer.
Sixteen members of the Chelan Chapter attended the camp on Thursday and Friday June 12 and 13. Attendees participated in leadership workshops put on by the 2013-14 District VII Officers which included 3 from Chelan. Apolinar Blanco completed his year of service to District VII and now moves on to fulfill the duties of the Washington State FFA President. He is the third Washington State FFA President to serve as both Chelan FFA President and District VII President in the last six years. He joins Tucker and Sammi Jo Cool to have had the honor of serving in these positions. Dane Schwartz outgoing Vice-President and Erick Straub outgoing Treasurer represented the Chelan Chapter well. Attendees also participated in workshops put on by Agriculture Education Teachers, a reflections program, and networking with FFA members from around the district.
The 2014-15 District Officer Team was elected on Friday morning, after completing an application process, personal interview, FFA knowledge test, and a speech. The officer team will attend District Officer Training on July 14-16 at Camp Casey on Whidbey Island. They are President, Dallas Tyus of Tonasket; Vice-President, Josie Gallup of Chelan; Secretary, Bobby Hanson of Chelan; Treasurer, Jenna Valentine of Tonasket; Reporter; Cassidy Weaver of Eastmont; and Sentinel, Letty Trejo of Bridgeport. Throughout the coming year, they will put on District VII Blue and Gold Leadership Tour, plan and organize District Events, present awards at all District CDEs, and plan and implement the 2015 District VII Leadership Camp.
