With their only other home match cancelled due to fire and smoke, the Chelan High School cross country runners made the best of their lone home meet of the season.

The girls finished second and the boys third in Thursday's Caribou Trail League Championships at Lake Chelan Municipal Golf Course.

The girls could not overcome the powerful Cashmere pair of Angela Kniska (19:07) and Kea Paton (19:29), who finished first and second with teammate Sydney Green (20:25) seventh overall. Cashmere scored just 38 points to claim the team title.

But the Lady Goats ran in a group, scoring low points and bumping competitors down the scoring ladder.

Chelan's Marissa Palazzo placed sixth overall in 20 minutes, 12 seconds with teammate Daisy Campos (20:41) a few steps behind in ninth.

Maribel Negrete (21:03), Janette Meneses (21:08) and Jessica Galvan (21:18) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Goats.

Cashmere dominated the boys' race with all five scorers placing in the top 11 spots for a total of 32 points.

Quincy was a strong second paced by league champion Victor Selgado, who posted a 15:39 to win the event.
Quincy's five scorers placed no lower than 17th for a total of just 39 points.

That left Chelan's tight grouping to claim third place, edging Omak for the honor by one point, 96 to 97.

The five Goat scorers all finished between 15th and 25th and were separated by just 44 seconds.

They were led by Loren Stocker's 17:02 with teammate Ivan Reyes right behind in 16th with a 17:05. Erick Garcia (19th, 17:13), Julio Vera (21st, 17:28) and Bryan Cadena (25th, 17:46) rounded out Chelan's scoring.

The Goats travel to Freeman for the Bi-District Championships at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26.

The game started with Manson pressuring Bridgeport and at the 10-minute mark Manson's Itzel Castro received a long ball allowing her to go one-on-one with the Bridgeport goalie and give the Lady Trojans their first goal.
Throughout the first half both teams made some mistakes but neither team could capitalize.
