Entiat 0, Shootout
Facing an elimination game against visiting Entiat Tuesday, the Manson High School soccer team survived a 1-1 tie in regulation, two sudden-death overtimes and finally won, making three penalty kicks to Entiat's one, in a shootout to advance to the 2B League Championship game.
The official score will be Manson 2, Entiat 1.
Playing in a steady, chilly drizzle, Manson's Bianca Sanchez scored on a penalty kick at the 10:30 mark of the first half.
Manson's Itzel Castro seemingly scored again on a breakaway that would have put the Lady Trojans up 2-0. But Manson was called for off sides and the officials nixed the goal.
Entiat controlled much of the middle of the first half and narrowly missed a goal when Manson Goalie Alexis Castro deflected a powerful shot on goal that struck the crossbar and ricocheted away.
Within 10 minutes of the second half, Entiat's Yecenia Ramirez tied the score.
Entiat's Yumi Sanford staved off several serious shots on goal with five saves to preserve the tie.
Manson, the league's No. 2 seed, travels to Liberty Bell for the 2B League Championship game, at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3.

Despite winning the Caribou Trail League co-championship with Cascade, the Chelan High School volleyball team was the No. 2 seed going into the playoffs due to the league's tiebreaker system.
The Lady Trojans faced an elimination match Tuesday against visiting Quincy that could have put an early end to a promising rebuilding season.
But the tall, athletic Lady Goats overpowered Quincy, 25-14, 25-23 and 25-13, as CTL Player of the Year Courtney Dietrich pounded 15 kills.
The reward is the No. 2 seed in the Bi-District playoffs Saturday at Freeman High School against Riverside. The challenge is facing another loser-out game.
The six teams going to the Bi-District tournament have all been ranked in the Top 10 in the state 1A poll, said Chelan Coach Donene Hendricks. Only three advance to the state tournament.
On Tuesday, the Lady Goats jumped out to an early lead in Game 1 and powered their way to an 11-point victory as Quincy players were constantly diving in attempt to save kills.
Game 2 was competitive as the Lady Jacks scrapped their way through an emotional game that was tied 8-8, 11-11, and 17-17 before the Lady Goats started to slowly pull away.
Quincy rallied to pull within 23-22 until Junior Hitter Abby Phelps slammed home one spike to make it 24-22 and another to close out the game. Phelps had 20 assists and converted 21 of 23 serves with six aces.
Chelan shot out to a 7-1 lead in Game 3 on the strength of Phelps' service and, except for a short rally to close the score to 10-8, the Lady Goats pulled away, outscoring Quincy 7-2 down the stretch.
