Grapplers off to promising start

|Erick Garcia placed second at 138 pounds, Chris Truini placed second at 145 pounds, Alex Cortez placed second at 195 pounds, and Asa Schwartz won the tournament at 220 pounds. Angel Hernandez placed third at 106 pounds, Justin Buyas placed fourth at 126, Juan Garcia placed third at 152, and Carlos Montes placed fourth at Heavyweight. Ivan Reyes placed fifth at 126, Julian Buyas placed sixth at 132, Victor Flores placed sixth at 145, and Jose Ruiz placed fifth at 160.|
The Goats traveled to Granger to see the top two teams in the state on Dec. 8.
"We recently got into this tournament to get a look at Granger and Zillah. They are both tough this year," said Coach Jay McGuffin. "But overall we had a good showing and think it will be an exciting state tournament come February."
The goats brought 13 wrestlers and all of them made it to the placing round. Four wrestlers made the finals and we had one champion.
Chelan placed third as a team.
Goats win Omak tourney; defeat ‘Dogs
The Goats traveled to Omak for their first tournament of the season Dec. 1.
The Goats placed first as a team and had 13 wrestlers place in the top four.
I like the Omak tournament because they do a good job getting all of our athletes matches and we get to see everyone in the Caribou Trail League.
I am happy with how we performed today as a team this early in the season. We have a ways to go, it's a long season, and it's a tough December with a lot of high-quality competition.
Our champs included Chris Truini at 140 pounds, Alex Cortez at 195, and Luis Garcia at Heavyweight.
CHELAN PLACERS: Freshman Angel Hernandez placed second at 106, Freshman, Julian Buyas placed second at 140, Erick Garcia placed second at 138, Juan Garcia was second at 160, and Asa Schwartz was second at 220.
Those who placed third on the day were: Justin Buyas at 126, Julio Vera at 132, and Hector Avila at 225. Goats that placed fourth were Ivan Reyes at 126, Saul Garcia at 160.
Chelan won its CTL opener Dec. 11 against Okanogan, 59-18.
