After three quarters of grinding the Trojans finally exploded in the fourth quarter and imposed their will on the inside to defeat visiting Oroville, 52-43, on Jan. 15.
Manson outscored Oroville 17-6 in the deciding quarter, led by Alex Vanderholm who scored 11 of his 20 in the frame.
We took advantage of the mismatches and our guards did an excellent job force feeding Alex, led by Olegario Orozco's 11 assists, Helleson said.
After a sluggish first three quarters the key was we really clamped down on the defensive end and got every rebound. After giving up 6 offensive rebounds in the first half, we limited Oroville to only 1 in the second half, he said.
Paul Toolson and Jesus Sanchez led the defensive effort.
The Trojans (8-4, 3-1) traveled to Bridgeport Jan. 18.

From Coach Kurt Toolson
The Manson Lady Trojans lost to Bridgeport on Friday Jan. 18, 38-31. Bridgeport came out fired up in the first quarter, causing a few turnovers and getting some easy baskets to jump out to an early lead they never relinquished. They led by 7 at halftime. Unfortunately, Manson only scored 1 point in the third quarter and gave up several uncontested layins to fall behind by as many as 18 points. They made a spirited run in the 4th quarter to close the gap but the deficit was too much to overcome.
Poor shooting, both from the field and free throw line were huge factors in the game. Manson missed 14 layins and shot a dreadful 8-27 from the line. On the brighter side, we did have a season low in turnovers, with only 18.
Individually, Manson was lead by the 21 points of Itzel Castro and the 12 rebounds of Raechel Vanderholm. Recognition also goes to Jaque Guillen and Ruby Garcia, both of whom had 0 turnovers for the game.
