Chelan golf in full swing

The Chelan boys and girls golf teams are in full swing of the 2013 season after they hosted Okanogan for their first league match on March 28. The boys team also played against Eastmont on March 25.
On March 25, the boys team traveled to East Wenatchee to play at the Highlander Golf Course against Eastmont for a non-league match. Chelan Head Coach Kirk Einspahr said the weather turned out next to perfect and a good match was turned in by Chelan.
The Chelan boys team turned in a team score of 317 to beat Eastmont by 27 strokes. Eastmont scored 344. Leading the way for the Goats was senior Ian Cowell . Einspahr said Cowell had a blistering 2-over par 74. Seniors Derek Ahl and cory McClellan also came up big for Chelan as they scored some of the best scored ever recorded for Chelan. Ahl scored 80, McClellan scored 81, and senior Zach Burchett came in with an 82 to round out the four scoring members of the Chelan team.
"I was very proud of how well we played today [March 25] this early in the season at a curse that most of the team had played infrequently, if at all," Einspahr said. "I hope that we can continue this level of golf as we get into the season."
The Chelan boys and girls golf teams brought home wins in their first league match at home on March 28, against the Okanogan Bulldogs. The boys team won with a score of 343 to Okanogan's 478. The girls team won by a default because Okanogan didn't have enough girls for a team score.
Ahl had another personal best for the second match in a row coming in with a 79 for first place. McClellan scored 83, Burchett scored 84, and sophomore Elijah Larson scored a 97.
For the girls team senior Sam Cooper had the best score, with a score of 90.
"The other girls scoring well for Chelan were junior Quinn Cooper [95] and freshman Casey Jackson [98], all good scores for this early in the season," Einspahr said.
The Goats are taking a break from competition for spring break. The team will be back in action on April 9, when they host Cascade at 2:30 p.m.
