The Chelan Lady Goats had a fantastic week, capped off by winning the Bi-District tournament at Cascade High School in Leavenworth last Saturday.
"First, our team did an outstanding job the whole day," Chelan coach Donene Hendricks said. "It is a very tough format considering that we started warming up and playing at 1:30 (p.m.) and finished playing the last match at 8:00 p.m. I couldn't have been more proud of the way the team had to battle tough competition as well as fight through some fatigue."
Chelan's week started last Tuesday, hosting the CTL play-in matches. The Lady Goats took on the Quincy Lady Jacks. Chelan won the match 3-0.
Chelan easily won the first set, 25-11. Quincy put up its best fight in the second set, but it still wasn't enough as the Lady Goats earned the set, 25-20. Chelan wrapped up the match in the third set with a 25-15 win.

Chelan's first match in the Bi-District tournament was against Newport, with the Lady Goats earning the 3-0 victory. Chelan handled the first two sets with ease, winning each set 25-14. Newport fought to get back into the match in the third set, but it still wasn't enough as Chelan completed the sweep, 25-22. The win clinched a state tournament berth.
The Lady Goats then faced Freeman in the Bi-District semi-final. It was a tough match, but Chelan earned a tough 3-1 win. Freeman took the first set, 26-24, but the Lady Goats fought back and took the second set, 25-22. Chelan found its groove from there and took the third set, 25-18, and finished the match in the fourth set, 25-21.
In the District championship game, Chelan faced a familiar opponent in tournament-host Cascade. Cascade had won both matches in the regular season, but Chelan wasn't afraid of the challenge and earned some revenge by recording a 3-1 win to claim the top seed from District 6/7 into the state tournament.
Cascade came out strong and took the first set, 25-15. Chelan got back on track in the second set and won 25-16. The Lady Goats took a close third set, 25-22, and kept the momentum going to close out the Kodiaks in the fourth set, 25-14.
"Our win over Cascade was a sweet victory for us especially since we had dropped both league matches to them," Hendricks said. "We know that it is always going to be a battle when we play them, which makes for great volleyball. It was icing on the cake that it was a win for the Bi-District title."
Chelan will prepare until they travel to the 1A State Volleyball tournament at the Yakima Valley Sundome on Nov. 15 and 16.
"Our team will continue to prepare for the state tournament as we have tried to prepare for matches all season," Hendricks said. "There are always things that we keep working on to improve and it will be no different."
Chelan's first match will be against the South Whidbey Falcons on Nov. 15 at 11:30 a.m. on court two. If Chelan wins, it will play next on Nov. 15 at 8:15 p.m. on court one. If Chelan loses, it will play next on Nov. 15 at 6:45 p.m. on court one. Check the Washington Interscholastic Athletics Association for the complete State volleyball bracket.
"The biggest thing we will be working on as we head into State is to continue to enjoy the journey together," Hendricks said. "This is the last hurrah for our seniors and we want to finish playing to the best of our abilities."
