Chelan boys win two straight

The Chelan Goats basketball team picked up two league wins last week.
Chelan welcomed the Quincy Jacks last Friday, defeating Quincy in a close 44-41 win.
Quincy came out and took the lead after the first quarter, 11-9. But Chelan was better in the second quarter and was able to take a one-point lead into halftime.
The Goats increased its lead after the third quarter, 36-31. Quincy played well in the fourth quarter and pushed Chelan, but the Goats were able to hang on down the stretch to earn the win.
Both teams had 18 turnovers and 21 rebounds. The big difference on the stat sheet was blocks. CHS Junior Hank Hollingsworth recorded a double-double with 11 blocks and 13 rebounds. Quincy did not record a single block.
Chelan's Kai Clausen had a team-high 12 points. Guard Ivan Rodriguez had 10 points.

The Goats were at home again last Saturday night, this time taking on the Omak Pioneers and earning a 44-29 win.
The game started off with the teams trading baskets in the first quarter, with Omak taking a 10-9 lead after the first quarter. Chelan got a rhythm going in the second quarter and was able to take a one-point lead at halftime.
Chelan took over the game in the third quarter. The Goats started to pull away in the third quarter with a 36-27 lead heading into the fourth. The Goats finished the game with excellent defense and held the Pioneers to two fourth-quarter points, capping off the Chelan win.
The game was a tale of two halves for the Goats. Chelan shot 29.2 percent from the field in the first half, but was 42.9 percent from the field in the second half. Chelan outrebounded Omak, 28-21, with 15 of Chelan's rebounds coming in the offensive zone.
Kai Clausen was again the leading scorer with a game-high 13 points.

After being at home last week, the Goats will hit the road for two games this week. Chelan took on Cashmere Tuesday, Jan. 7. The team will travel this Friday to take on Seattle Academy, with tip-off scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
