Chelan boys earn win against Cashmere at the buzzer

Cashmere though it was going to escape Chelan with a win, but Chelan's Mason McClellan hit a shot at the buzzer, lifting the Goats to a 44-43 win.
Cashmere started out strong and opened up an 18-7 lead after the first quarter. Chelan fought back in the second quarter and cut into the Cashmere lead, but it was the Bulldogs up at halftime, 27-19.
The second half set-up the Goats for a comeback. In the third quarter, Chelan started storming back into the game by out-scoring Cashmere, going into the fourth quarter down by six points. The Goats played great defense in the final quarter, holding the Bulldogs to six points.
The defense set up the final play for the Goats, with McClellan hitting the game-winning shot to lift Chelan to victory.
The Goats were better shooting the ball than the Bulldogs, with Chelan shooting 44.4 percent from the field, while Cashmere only shot 40.9 percent. Both teams had 14 turnovers and Cashmere had one more rebound than Chelan.

Chelan ended its season last Friday, Feb. 7, at home on senior night against the undefeated Okanogan Bulldogs. The Goats lost the game, 55-46.
Okanogan came out and played well, taking a three-point lead after one quarter. The second quarter was more of the same, as the Bulldogs earned a 28-19 lead at the half.
The Bulldogs put the game away in the third quarter, out-scoring the Goats 17-15 in the third quarter. Chelan out-scored Okanogan in the fourth quarter 12-10, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Both teams shot the ball above 40 percent from the field. Okanogan had slight advantages in rebounds, turnovers and assists.

Chelan ends the season at 10-10 overall. The team finished 8-6 in league play, finishing fourth place in league standings. Chelan hosted Omak in a CTL play-in game this past Tuesday, Feb. 11.
If the Goats lost, its season is over. If the Goats win, they will compete in the Bi-District Tournament this weekend at Okanogan and Omak high schools. With a win, the team would be the CTL's No. 4 seed in the tournament and take on the winner of the Lakeside-Riverside game this Friday, Feb. 14 at 8:30 p.m. at Omak High School. Chelan will play on Saturday at either 2:45 or 6:15 p.m., pending the result of the first game. Check for the full Bi-District playoff bracket.
