Lady Trojans earn big win against Lady Lions
The Manson Lady Trojans earned it's fifth win of the season on the road last Tuesday, Feb. 4, against the Liberty Bell Lady Lions, 42-36.
Manson played a solid first half, earning an eight-point lead. The Lady Trojans continued to play well in the second half by maintaining its lead. Liberty Bell was able to cut the lead to five in the fourth quarter. But Manson was able to weather the storm and hang on for the six point victory.
"Stout defense and patient offense allowed us to finish the game with a six point advantage," Manson Coach Kurt Toolson said.
The win was the second-consecutive win following the win on Feb. 1.
Last Thursday, Feb. 6, the Lady Trojans were on the road again, taking on the Oroville Hornets. The win streak ended against Oroville as Manson fell, 33-31.
Oroville got off to a solid start, earning a 9-0 advantage. Manson gained its composure and closed the first quarter down, 15-9. Ruby Garcia scored all nine points for Manson in the first quarter. The Lady Trojans played well in the second quarter and went into the half down by three.
The second half was back-and-forth between the two teams, but Manson was never able to overcome the deficit, falling to Oroville.
"Our achilles heel of missed lay-ins came back to bite us, as we missed seven (lay-ins) in the fourth quarter and ended up losing by two points," Toolson said. "The game was a real confidence booster for us as we showed we could play with anyone in our league and also showed how much we have improved over the past couple of weeks."
Manson is 5-12 this season with one game remaining. The Lady Trojans hosted the Bridgeport Fillies this past Tuesday, Feb. 11, on senior night. Check next week's Lake Chelan Mirror for district playoff information.
