The Chelan Goats soccer team earned two wins last week to improve it's record to 9-4-1.
Chelan took on the Cashmere Bulldogs on the road last Tuesday, April 29, coming away with a 4-0 win.
Chelan jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute, as Juan Garcia scored off a header that found the back of the net. The Goats scored one more time before the end of the first half, with Chelan's Julio Vera scored off a free kick in the 34th minute to make the score 2-0 after the first half.
The Goats added two more goals in the second half. Chelan's Edbin Vargas found the back of the net in the 76th minute. In the 78th minute, Chelan's Ivan Magdaleno scored a beautiful goal, dribbling around in the box with four Cashmere players around him, and somehow scoring a goal to put the Goats up 4-0.
Chelan goalkeeper Miguel Sanchez earned his fifth shutout in a row and his seventh of the season. The Goats had 40 shots on goal while Cashmere only managed 11.
Last Saturday, May 3, the Goats had a big game against the Brewster Bears at home for second place in the CTL. The game was a battle, but the Goats were able to prevail 2-1.
Chelan got on the board first, as Ivan Magdaleno scored in the 10th minute to make it 1-0 Chelan at the end of the first half.
Brewster scored in the second half on a controversial play. The Bears scored in the 46th minute to tie the game, but not without some debate.
"Humberto Ramirez is hit hard by a Brewster defender in the neck and goes to the ground with an injury," Chelan Assistant Coach Jim Broome said. "The referee allows the play to continue while Humberto is still on the ground. Neither the referee or Brewster did anything to stop the play, after almost a minute of Humberto still being on the ground, Brewster ended up scoring their only goal in the 46th minute of the game."
The Goats were able to get back on top, as Cristian Barajas scored in the 78th minute to put Chelan ahead as the Goats earned the win.
"Whenever these two teams play, it is guaranteed to be a good game. Today was no different. Both teams battled the wind and each other for 80 minutes," Broome said.
Chelan had 21 shots while Brewster recorded 18 shots.
The Goats will wrap up the regular season this week with two games. Chelan took on CTL-leading Quincy this past Tuesday, May 6, on the road. Chelan will take on Tonasket this Thursday, May 8, at home on senior day.
