The Chelan soccer team had a busy and successful last week, earning the regular season championship as well as earning a State tournament berth.
Chelan ended the regular season last Thursday, May 8, earning a 4-0 win against Tonasket, clinching the league title. Chelan got on the board in the eighth minute with a goal from Chelan's Ivan Magdaleno. In the 19th minute, Chelan's Edbin Vargas scored Chelan's second goal. Chelan added a third goal in the 38th minute from Chelan's Julio Vera to make it 3-0 after the first half.
Chelan was able to add one more goal in the second half, with Chelan's Joaquin Garcia scoring in the 62nd minute.
Chelan had 43 shots compared to Tonasket's seven.
The win set up a first-round District playoff game against the Bridgeport Mustangs last Saturday, May 10, at Mountain Goat Field.
Chelan jumped on the board in the 14th minute, as Chelan's Juan Garcia scored off a corner kick. Chelan's Ivan Magdaleno scored in the 25th minute to increase the Chelan lead. In the 27th minute, Garcia scored his second goal of the game and Chelan's final goal of the game.
Bridgeport was able to get on the board in the 76th minute to break up the Chelan shut-out attempt, but Chelan was able to cruise to the 3-1 win from that point.
Chelan hosted the winner of the Okanogan-Lakeside game this past Wednesday, May 14, at Mountain Goat Field. Based on the result of this game, the Goats will play on Saturday, May 17, at the Apple Bowl in Wenatchee at either 3 or 5 p.m. See next week's Lake Chelan Mirror for results.
