Goats take group of athletes to State

Padilla will be one of several Chelan athletes representing the Goats at the State track meet this Friday and Saturday at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

The Bi-District meet in Cashmere, Wash., was the meet between the Caribou Trail League and the NEA from Spokane. The top 4 competitors determined from this meet will move onto the State meet in Cheney (Eastern Washington University) on Friday, May 30, and Saturday, May 31. The Chelan athletes that were able to finish in the top 4 in their events were as follows:
Morgan Hawkins finished 3rd with a time of 13.24 in the 100m dash. Chelan's 4 x 200m relay team of Rebecca Ediger, Daisy Campos, Addie Ivory and Morgan Hawkins finished 3rd with a time of 1:51.40. Karle Pittisinger will return to defend her Shot Put Championship by winnig the Shot Put with a throw of 41'-09" and took 2nd in the Discus with a throw of 128'-01". Karle also set a new meet record in the Shot Put. Sterling Gordon placed 3rd in the boys Javelin 153'-03". Asa Schwartz will return to State in the Discus with a placing of 3rd and a throw of 145'-02" which is a new PR and the Shot Put with a PR throw of 50'-04" to take 4th place. The dynamic duo of Jenny Sundberg and Haley Holiday both will go to State in the High Jump with heights of 4'-08" for Jenny taking 4th place and a 5'-00" clearing for Haley to place 2nd. Pole Vaulter Bryan Cadena will vault at the State meet by flying 12'-3" to take 4th place. Last, but not least , is Jose Padilla, who won the Shot Put with a PR and school record breaking throw of 56'-03". The old record was 52'-2" held by Michael Young which was set in 1993. Jose then comes back in the discus and again sets a new PR and school record breaking throw of 150'-03. This throw also broke the school record of Michael Young of 147'-07" set in 1993. Keep in mind Jose is only a Sophomore thrower.
Those athletes competing but that were not able to make the top 4 set some PR times in their own right. Drew Morris ran a 1:05.48 in the open 400 and took 8th place. Addie Ivory ran a time of 2:45.93 to take an 8th place in the open 800m run. Dillon Dawson set a new PR of 2:11.71 to finish in 8th place in the 800m run. Ivan Reyes finished 8th in the mile run with a time of 4:48.94 and Allie Barnes (5:43.97) and Jessica Galvan (5:59.33) also in the girls mile with Allie taking 6th and Jessica finishing in 10th place. The boys 2 mile race was contested by Gio Reyes as he ran a new PR of 10:59.91 taking 11th place. In the Long Jump, Matt Antonio Jumped a competitive distance of 18'-0.2.75" to take 8th place and Drew Morris jumped 12'-0.7.50" to finish 12th place. Jenny Sundberg threw the girls Javelin 68'-04" to finish 12th place. Rebecca Ediger vaulted 7'-06" for a new PR in the pole Vault to take 11th place. Donny Watson high jumped 5'-08" to finish in the 6th place position. Melina Evig threw a PR distance of 94'-04" to finish in the 6th place spot in the girls Discus. The girls 4 x 400m relay team of Haley Holiday, Addie Ivory, Daisy Campos and Morgan Hawkins finished just out of the State meet by taking 5th with a time of 4:23.42.
Chelan's team will embark for the State meet on Thursday to work out on the State Track at Eastern Washington University. The State meet will be contested on Friday, May 30, and culminate on Saturday, May 31.
