Habitat House family
Lake Chelan Valley Habitat for Humanity announces the family selection process is underway for home #16. The home will be built in Manson. There will be a Mandatory meeting to attend to be registered and to receive your application.There will be two meetings to choose from, the first meeting will be at the Manson Grange Hall,157 Wapato Way Manson, on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. The second meeting will be held at the Chelan Fire Station 233 Wapato Avenue, Chelan, on Monday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. There will be no other opportunity to receive the application or to be considered for the new home unless you attend.
Humane Society fundraiser
Pearls and Paws - A Humane Affair, will be held Friday, Sept. 13, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., at Tsillan Cellars in Chelan. Join them for an evening of delicious food paired with local wine and live music. Tickets are $100 and proceeds will benefit building a new shelter for the animals of the Wenatchee Valley. For more information contact Jill Leonad 509-662-9577, ext. 415.
Fall in Lake Chelan Car Show
The annual Fall in Lake Chelan Car Show will be held on Sept. 14, 8 .a.m. - 4 p.m. There will be a downtown poker race for car show participants, old fashioned cars parked in the Riverwalk Park, a show and shine area, music through the park and a free Evening Bridge Dance. This car show is open to 1972 and earlier cars/trucks. Registration closes at 3 p.m. Awards ceremony starts at 4 p.m. The Woodin Avenue Bridge Dance is from 6 - 11 p.m. Dance to music and watch the sunset as the band Velvet Elvis plays fun upbeat live music! Walk honors memory of children who died
In the spirit of friendship and as a way of honoring the memories of our children, siblings and grandchildren, the Wenatchee Valley Chapter of The Compassionate Friends will be holding a memorial 2 mile walk on Saturday, Sept. 14, Walla Walla Point Park, Wenatchee, with the walk beginning at 10 a.m. Registration is required for the event and registration forms will be available at the park, and includes a "Walk To Remember" T-Shirt, race style bib, Balloon Release, Remembrance Board/Wall, Lunch, Raffle, and music. Cost is $25 per person or $80 per family (up to four, living at the same physical address). For information, call 663-6727 or 665-9987.
Library special speaker
The Manson Public Library will host Harriet Baskas, a journalist and author of Washington Curiositiies and Washington Icons, on Sept. 17, 7 p.m., at the library. This is part of the Humanities of Washington, Speakers Bureau, Hidden Treasures in Washington's Museum. This will be a conservation about what and way certain pieces aren't displayed by our state's museums, from Bing Crosby's toupees to a 150-year-old pickle.
Manson Fire District
Chelan County Fire District 5 Commissioners have moved their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Sept. 10, to Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the fire station, 250 West Manson Blvd, Manson.
AWANA to start
On Wednesday, Sept. 18, the AWANA Program will start at Little Stone Church. AWANA is an international organization whose goal is to help children know who Jesus Christ is, accept Him as Savior, and become more like Him as God's Word is applied to their daily lives. AWANA is for ages 3 years - 6th grade. It will begin at 6:20 p.m. and conclude by 8 p.m. each Wednesday through April. During the evening, there are games, songs, snacks, a Bible lesson, and a small group time to work on activities. All children are welcome. For more info call Kathryn Dobbs at 682-3209.
Legends & Bombshells kick-off at PAC
It's a Beatles and Burlesque-filled week as the Performing Arts Center of Wenatchee kicks-off its 2013-2014 Season with Liverpool Legends and Atomic Bombshells! Lake Chelan Hydro Fest
A great family event with two full days of inboard raceboats, featuring eight classes of hydroplanes and racing runabouts. The event is free to the public and is held on the Chelan City Marina and Don Morris Park. Contact John Walcker at 509-679-7166.
NCW Lyme Support Group
The new NCW Lyme Support Group will meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month from 6:30 p.m. at 208 North Chelan Avenue in Wenatchee. We focus on providing information and resources to anyone whose life has been disrupted by Lyme disease as well as interested providers of care. Lyme is the most frequently occuring vector-borne infectious disease in the U.S. and can cause arthritis, mental illness, and neurologic problems. Lake Chelan Crush Class will be held Friday, Sept. 27, at the Lake Chelan Municipal Golf Course. Stehekin Harvest Fest
Harvest Fest at the Buckner Orchard has evolved to become more than a one-day event. For the fourth consecutive year, a Friday evening program at the Golden West Lodge will kick-off the celebration of the Buckner Homestead and Orchard as an important part of the Stehekin Valley heritage. Stehekin Valley Music - Across Generations: On Friday, Oct. 4, starting at 7 p.m., live at the Golden West Lodge, enjoy an evening celebrating the musical heritage of the Valley. The Chelan Chase is an annual 5K-run/walk fundraiser that winds through the streets of Chelan. The race starts at the old bridge and finishes at Riverwalk Park.
