This year's Fine Arts Festival begins this Friday, Aug. 16 at noon. Riverwalk park will be busting at the seams with artist booths, children activities and live entertainment.
This year 30 artist booths will be present, selling original arts and crafts spread throughout Riverwalk Park.
Featured Artists
In addition to a number of excellent new artists there is also a large group of returning artists. These include Rick Davenport who creates wooding bowls, trays and other small wood items, in his NotsoDull! Wood Turning Studio in Edmonds, and Monique Lott an East Wenatchee artist who creates a wide variety of jewelry using sterling silver, gemstones, and other metals and materials. The variety of original arts includes paintings, pottery, yard art, photography and traditional crafts. The Lake Chelan Artist Alliance will also have a booth which will showcase local artists.
Live Entertainment
Dale Ayotte will kick off the music on Friday, Aug. 16, from 3 to 5 p.m., followed by Waterdog on the stage from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday attendees will find Brian Shaffer from noon to 2 p.m., Django Jazz from 3 to 5 p.m., and the Quigley Trio will take the stage from 6 to 8p.m. Velvet Elvis is on stage from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. The finale is The Lake Boys performing from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m..
Silent auction
The 6th annual "Art by the Foot -Silent Auction" will also be part of the Festival. All pieces in the show are original works donated by local artist. Sherry Fisk, event chair, will have the Art by the Foot easels set up in Riverwalk Park all three days of the Festival. The bidding will close at 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The art is currently being displayed at Allisons of Manson until Thursday, Aug. 15.
Art lovers should be prepared for fierce bidding during the silent auction, event organizers say the Art by the Foot items quality is "top notch." Ronna Currier has donated four of her original watercolor paintings. Currier takes pictures on her world travels and then comes home to Chelan to paint in her tiny studio. Her four paintings are of a Mexican doorway, a villa entrance in Provence, France, a winery in Italy, and a numbered print of her "girl on chair." Other artists include Cam Elder, Anne Clausen, Sherry Fisk, Mike Dietering and Concie Luna.
Kids area
Puff the Magic Dragon is the theme for the kids' area. Mark Tesch will have hands-on adventures and painting for children of all ages.
Rotary Salmon Barbeque is slated on Saturday afternoon near the patio area by the shelter in Riverwalk Park from 4 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 17. The $20 dinner tickets, available at the barbeque or from Lake Chelan Rotarians, are good for fresh salmon, baked beans, hand shucked corn on the cob, coleslaw, roll and a soft drink.
