Our beloved “Papa”, Al Marcear, passed away peacefully on the evening of his 85th birthday in Phoenix, Arizona, following a sudden illness. A lifelong resident of Chelan, Al was the first-born child of Albert L. Marcear Sr and Jessie (Silkey) Marcear, and big brother to sisters Anita and Carolyn. Al attended school in Chelan, graduating from CHS in 1958. Following High School, he attended classes at WSU and Griffin Murphy Business School, where he earned a certificate in accounting. In 1962, he married Sue (Harms), also of Chelan. Al and Sue made their first home in Seattle before returning to Chelan in 1965 to raise their family. Al started a long career in the Apple Industry as a grower accountant for Blue Chelan, Inc. Eventually, he trained to become a fieldman under Don Morse. The Marcears purchased their first home and small orchard in Chelan Falls in 1969. After a few years, he decided to become a full-time orchardist, starting with 20 beautiful acres overlooking the community of Chelan. In the 1980s, Al became a board member at Trout, Inc., serving a long tenure as president. This role allowed Al to travel, he visited apple markets in Asia, the Middle East, and throughout the United States. Al and Sue enjoyed a long retirement, exploring the US with friends in their motorhome, backpacking, boating, golfing, cruising, and migrating as snowbirds each winter to Yuma, Arizona. Al lived a good life, rich in family, friends, and experiences.
Al leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Sue; children Jill Burbery and Brent Marcear, his favorite son-in-law Jim, and favorite daughter-in-law Cindy; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren,
and sister Anita Nesvacil.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held at Shadow Mountain Events in Chelan on Saturday, May 31st, beginning at 2 pm.
