WENATCHEE -- The Wenatchee AppleSox delivered a commanding performance Sunday night, overwhelming the Cascade Collegiate League Showcase team with a 21-5 victory at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium.
In a display of offensive prowess, the AppleSox scored in all but two innings, with five separate innings yielding at least three runs. Every player in Wenatchee's starting lineup contributed at least one hit to the team's formidable offensive effort.
Jack Haferkamp led the charge, connecting for a home run and driving in four runs on three hits. Matthew Henning matched Haferkamp's RBI total, also recording three hits. Kanoa Morisaki demonstrated exceptional plate discipline, walking four times while driving in three runs on two hits.
The game took an unusual turn in the later innings when head coach Mitch Darlington stepped in as a pinch hitter in the eighth. Though he struck out at the plate, Darlington showcased his versatility by recording a game-ending double play at shortstop in the ninth inning. Assistant coach Xander Orejudos also participated, delivering a pinch-hit double in the eighth and assisting on a play at second base in the final inning.
The AppleSox now enter a four-day break before resuming play on Friday against Yakima Valley at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. The team will be well-represented at the upcoming All-Star Game in Bellingham, with Garrett Ahern, Evan Canfield, Jonathan Fitz, Max Hartman, and Quincy Vassar selected to participate. The All-Star Game is scheduled for a 6:35 p.m. start and will be broadcast on MLB Network, MLB TV, and MLB.com.
This victory caps off a strong first half of the season for Wenatchee as they head into the All-Star break, setting the stage for what could be an exciting push in the latter half of their campaign.
