AppleSox Update
WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee AppleSox unleashed a relentless offensive assault, scoring in seven of eight innings to rout the Edmonton Riverhawks 17-5 on Wednesday night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium.
The AppleSox (23-12, 5-3 second half) set a new single-game high for runs scored in 2024 and have now plated an impressive 42 runs over their last three games. Wenatchee leads the West Coast League with 258 runs, outpacing the next-closest team by 58.
Aidan Dougherty and Cannon Peery spearheaded the offensive onslaught, each driving in four runs. Starting pitcher Garrett Ahern (2-0) delivered a strong performance, going a season-high 5.2 innings while striking out four batters.
Wenatchee wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring in the first inning for the first time since June 26. Dougherty collected his first of two hits and scored on an error in the following at-bat. He later smashed a three-run triple in the fourth inning, building upon Peery's two-run double in the third.
The AppleSox continued to showcase their plate discipline, drawing eight walks on the night. Wenatchee leads the WCL with 200 walks and reached base on a free pass seven times over their final four innings at the plate.
Max Hartman recorded his 12th multi-hit game of the summer with two hits, scoring twice. He currently leads the WCL with 35 runs scored.
Kanoa Morisaki, batting ninth in the lineup, collected his first multi-hit game of the season with three hits and crossed the plate three times.
Roberto Gonzalez had a productive night, scoring four runs on two hits and two walks. He has now scored at least twice in each of his last five games, tallying 12 runs, eight walks, and four hit-by-pitches during that span.
The AppleSox will face the Riverhawks again on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. for the rubber match of the series. The game, dubbed Throwback Thursday, will feature discounts on alcoholic beverages throughout the evening.
