WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee AppleSox delivered a dominant 17-4 victory over the Yakima Valley Pippins on Sunday night, powered by a breakout performance from newcomer Kyle Panganiban and a strong outing from the pitching staff to secure the first series win of the 2025 season.
Panganiban went 5-for-5 at the plate, falling just a home run shy of the cycle and driving in seven runs in the lopsided win. The victory moved the AppleSox to 2-1 on the season while dropping the Pippins to 1-2.
Brady Bean tied a franchise record by scoring five runs, highlighting a relentless offensive attack that put the game out of reach early. Wenatchee opened with a three-run first inning, with Panganiban driving in Bean and later scoring on a Jake Sanko single.
The AppleSox continued to pour on runs in the second when Bean tripled in Owen Firestone and scored on a Panganiban sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 4-0.
The fourth inning saw Wenatchee break the game open. Jack Barker ripped a two-run double, Panganiban followed with an RBI double, and Jack McWilliams added a sacrifice fly to make it 8-0.
Panganiban notched his second extra-base hit of the game with an RBI triple in the sixth, part of another two-run frame that pushed the lead to 10-0.
Wenatchee starter Max Mendes held the Pippins scoreless through four innings, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out one. David Barnes earned the win in relief, reaching 96 mph on the radar gun and striking out five.
Yakima Valley got its first run in the seventh off reliever Jace Taylor, who struck out three and was credited with a hold. The AppleSox answered with a seven-run eighth inning to make it 17-1.
Cody Snow pitched the ninth, allowing three runs but closing out the game to secure the win.
Wenatchee will take Monday off before returning home to face the Kelowna Falcons in a three-game series beginning Tuesday, June 3.
