Chelan County Planning Commission seeks District 3 representative

Posted

WENATCHEE — Chelan County officials are seeking applicants to fill a vacant position on the county's Planning Commission following the resignation of commissioner David Donovick.

The voluntary position represents District 3, which encompasses north Wenatchee and extends northeast to include the communities of Chelan and Manson. Candidates must be full-time residents of both Chelan County and District 3 to be eligible.

County Commissioner Brad Hawkins, who represents District 3, will review applications and recommend a final candidate to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).

"I hope the county gets strong interest among District 3 residents to serve in this important role," Hawkins said. "If things can progress as planned, I'm hoping we can fill the position before the Planning Commission's February meeting."

The unexpired term runs through December 31, 2025, after which the appointed commissioner may seek reappointment for a full four-year term.

Applicants must submit responses to three questions addressing their motivation for joining the commission, board experience, and relevant skills. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on January 15 via email to Brad.Hawkins@co.chelan.wa.us, with interviews for finalists scheduled for later in January.

The Planning Commission serves as a nine-member citizen advisory body, with three representatives from each commissioner district. Its primary responsibilities include reviewing and making recommendations on the county's Comprehensive Plan, planning activities, and zoning regulations as directed by the BOCC.

Regular commission meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday evening of each month, with additional special meetings and hearings scheduled as needed throughout the year.
