WENATCHEE — The Chelan County Auditor's Office is seeking citizens to serve on committees responsible for writing statements in favor of or against ballot measures for the upcoming November General Election Local Voters' Pamphlet.
The office is specifically looking for individuals to compose "For" and "Against" committee statements regarding measures proposed by Fire District No. 8 (Eniat). This call for volunteers comes after the district failed to appoint its own committees, as required by Washington state law.
According to Revised Code of Washington 29A.32.280, districts proposing measures are responsible for appointing committees to write arguments both for and against each measure. In the absence of district-appointed committees, the County Auditor has taken on the responsibility of recruiting committee members.
To be eligible, individuals must reside within the district boundaries. At least one person per committee must agree to be named in the voters' pamphlet as a committee member.
The Local Voters' Pamphlet, a crucial tool for informing the electorate, includes official ballot titles, explanatory statements, arguments for and against each measure, and rebuttals.
Interested citizens have until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, to submit their names and arguments to the Auditor's Office. Submissions can be made via email to auditor@co.chelan.wa.us or by arranging an in-person drop-off by calling 509-667-6808.
The Chelan County Auditor's Office has directed potential committee members to consult the "Ballot Measure Submission and Local Voters' Pamphlet Deadlines for Jurisdictions" document on their website for detailed information on submission requirements.
