MANSON – About 30 brave souls took to the frigid waters of Lake Chelan on Christmas Day to help the Manson Fire Department support the community.
Event organizer Gillian Walsh said about 30 people came out to take the plunge on the cold and damp Christmas Day.
“There was a bomb fire, Christmas music playing and hot apple cider served to everyone,” she said. “Some people got in and out fast as the water temp was 44 degrees but the Manson Polar Bears stayed for 8 mins, and it felt amazing.”
Proceeds from the event will help fund the Manson Volunteer Fire Association’s Season of Hope Fund, a Christmas gift program for Manson families in need.
Manson Fire Chief Arnold Baker took the first plunge at Manson Bay Beach.
“Chief Baker was an excellent sport and got into the water for his first and probably last polar plunge,” she said. “He was amazing.”
“It was an amazing day and such a great turnout by the community and Manson Fire Department,” she said. “How lucky are we to live in a community that genuinely cares about its people.”
