Braver Angels to address political divide at Ruby Theatre event

Posted

CHELAN - In an effort to address growing political polarization, the "Ruby U" speaker series is set to host representatives from Braver Angels, a national organization dedicated to depolarizing America. The event, titled "Navigating Difficult Conversations," will take place on Thursday, September 26, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ruby Theatre in Chelan.

The presentation aims to provide attendees with skills to examine their own polarization and develop strategies for engaging in challenging conversations with those holding differing viewpoints.

"Do you have people in your life you can't talk to any more? Are you worried about the civic health of our country?" the event organizers ask, highlighting the timeliness of the topic.

The one-hour session is designed to serve as both an introduction to Braver Angels and a condensed version of their longer workshops. Participants will have the opportunity to practice essential skills in difficult conversations by forming "agree statements" in response to two prompts.

Ruby U, initiated in 2024, is a speaker series that offers periodic public presentations, panels, and discussions on topics of community interest in the Chelan Valley. The series aims to "inform, educate and challenge the understanding of ourselves, our community, and our valley now and into the future," according to organizers.

The event will be held at the Ruby Theatre, located at 135 E Woodin Ave, Chelan. Admission is free, and doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
