Manson launches downtown facelift

Posted

MANSON — The community of Manson is undergoing a downtown revitalization project spearheaded by the local Chamber of Commerce.

The multi-phase initiative, which began in 2023, aims to rejuvenate the historic downtown corridor. Phase 1, funded by a Chelan County grant for capital improvements, saw the removal of neglected trees along the sidewalks from Wapato Point Parkway to Pedoi Street.

Phase 2 is now underway, with contracts awarded to local businesses. Antonio's Landscaping & Rock Walls of Manson has been tasked with hardscaping tree beds and planter areas, cleaning sidewalks, relocating garbage cans, and installing new benches. Concurrently, American Quality Coatings from Wenatchee will refurbish the existing green light poles.

The project's inception followed two community forums hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. A volunteer team, including Timi Starkweather, Tom Tochterman, and Kim Ustanik, developed the plan. Gerry Ustanik has taken on the role of project manager, coordinating both paid contractors and volunteers.

As an unincorporated area, Manson lacks the municipal resources typically available to cities. The Chamber of Commerce has stepped in to fill this gap, relying heavily on volunteer efforts to drive community improvements.

Chamber officials report positive cooperation from Chelan County staff and enthusiasm from local contractors. The organization is already looking ahead to future phases of the project, with plans to further enhance the downtown area.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay alert for ongoing developments in Manson's downtown core as the revitalization effort progresses.
