WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee AppleSox struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities as they fell to the Bellingham Bells, 6-1, in the series opener at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium on Tuesday night.

AppleSox starter Jack DeDonato (0-1) delivered a strong performance, allowing only one unearned run on three hits over six innings. The right-hander struck out four and walked two, but his efforts were not enough to overcome the team's offensive woes.

Wenatchee (7-3) stranded nine baserunners despite drawing nine walks, failing to take advantage of the Bells' pitching staff's control issues.

Bellingham (6-4) broke the game open with a five-run surge over the final three innings, capitalizing on three AppleSox errors during that span. The Bells scored the game's first run in the second inning and regained the lead for good in the seventh.

The AppleSox's lone run came in the fifth inning when Hunter Friedberg walked, advanced on a Max Clark single, and scored on a groundout by Max Hartman.

Wenatchee will look to even the series on Wednesday night, with Garrett Ahern set to make his season debut after concluding his freshman year at Grand Canyon University. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

As part of the WINatchee Wednesday promotion, game sponsor AG Supply will be giving away a Traeger Pro 780 WiFi grill. Fans attending the game can also win free prizes from local businesses, including Sun Basin movie vouchers, Jet Pro Auto Wash gift cards, and Big 5 Sporting Goods gift cards.
