Posted

STEHEKIN — A Level 2 evacuation notice has been issued for the remote community of Stehekin as wildfire threats intensify in the region. The order, set to take effect at 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, covers the area from Hazard Creek through the Stehekin Valley, including the Stehekin landing and west to High Bridge.

Chelan County Emergency Management officials are requiring all tourists, campers, and hikers to leave the area immediately. The Level 2 notice also prohibits any tourism-related visitors from being ferried into Stehekin.

Emergency Management and Chelan County Sheriff's Office personnel will be stationed in Stehekin to oversee the evacuation process. Authorities emphasize the critical nature of the evacuation order due to ongoing firefighting efforts in the area.

Residents and property owners are strongly advised to prepare for potential rapid departure. Officials have established Areas of Refuge with shuttle services at the Stehekin Ranch, airfield, Buckner Orchard, and Stehekin bakery. Evacuees are directed to use the recommended parking area at the airfield, as space at the landing is reserved for fire equipment and emergency personnel.

Public Information Officers are on site to provide updates and assist visitors with evacuation plans. A fire information board has been set up at the Stehekin landing, and PIOs are visiting local businesses daily to provide current information.

Authorities are urging residents to monitor the Chelan County Emergency Incidents Map for real-time updates on evacuation levels. The evacuation order highlights the increasing wildfire risks as the region faces another severe fire season.
