Wind-driven brush fire near Chelan quickly contained

Posted

CHELAN - A rapidly spreading brush fire near Davis Canyon Road along US 97A was swiftly tackled by Chelan Fire and Rescue at 11:45 a.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, the first unit reported a fire quickly moving uphill, propelled by strong winds and threatening a nearby residence. Fortunately, the winds were driving the fire mostly away from the house, providing a crucial advantage to the firefighting efforts.

Firefighters immediately began suppressing the flames, prioritizing the protection of the home close to the fire's point of origin. The favorable wind direction allowed crews to keep the flames at bay, minimizing the risk to the threatened structure.

A second alarm was promptly called, summoning additional resources from Manson, Entiat, Orondo, and Wenatchee to bolster the firefighting efforts. The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) also arrived on the scene to provide further assistance.

Chelan County Sheriff Deputies were on hand to ensure the safety of the firefighters by overseeing and managing vehicle traffic through the impacted area.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The blaze, which grew to approximately 2 acres, was ultimately brought under control by ground resources. Although a helicopter from the Wenatchee Valley Fire Department was requested and arrived at the scene, it was not deployed due to the successful containment efforts by the ground crews.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
