Local girl raises funds for youth program with cookie sales

MANSON - In a display of entrepreneurship and community spirit, six-year-old Kenna Hei has contributed to the Manson Grange Youth Fairs program through her resourceful cookie-selling initiative.

Kenna, a first-year member of the Youth Fairs program, initially participated in a fundraising event at the Manson Farmers Market alongside her grandmother, Kim Ustanik. The event, involving four families, raised $213 for the program.

However, it was Kenna's quick thinking at the end of the event that showcased her budding business acumen. When faced with leftover cookies, Kenna proposed an idea to her grandmother, saying, "Mimi, we can sell the cookies at the Lodge!"

Taking her granddaughter's suggestion, Ustanik, who owns the Mountain View Lodge in Manson, brought the remaining cookies to her hotel. Kenna then created a handmade sign reading, "For the Grange by Kenna Hei – 2 for $1," complete with her own artwork.

The young entrepreneur's efforts paid off, with lodge guests purchasing the cookies. Kenna's initiative resulted in an additional $50 for the Youth Fairs program, which she presented at the August 19 Manson Grange Youth Fairs meeting to enthusiastic applause.

Norm Manly, Program Manager for the Manson Grange Youth Fairs, expressed pride in Kenna's accomplishment, stating, "One of the joys of being the Manson Grange Youth Fairs Program Leader is watching our young members grow, build confidence, and develop a 'can do' attitude that will help them grow into productive citizens. Kenna is proof that we are doing just that!"

This early display of leadership and entrepreneurial spirit by Kenna Hei illustrates the positive impact of youth programs in fostering essential life skills and community engagement.
