CHELAN — The Pioneer Fire burning in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has grown to 23,529 acres as of Wednesday, July 17, according to the latest update from fire officials. Containment remains at 14%, with 776 personnel currently assigned to the incident.

Community meetings are scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Manson High School and Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Golden West Visitor Center in Stehekin. The Manson meeting will also be streamed live on the Pioneer Fire Information Facebook page.

Firefighters successfully conducted point protection firing operations along Fish Creek on Tuesday, while fire behavior increased and moved into Hunt's Creek, unrelated to the firing operation. Crews also completed an indirect contingency line along Cooper's Ridge toward Parrish Peak.

The Chelan County Sheriff has extended the level 3 evacuation up lake to Hazard Creek along Lake Chelan, now encompassing Safety Harbor to Hazard Creek. Level 1, 2, and 3 evacuation levels remain in effect around the Pioneer Fire.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Wednesday due to dry thunderstorms and abundant lightning, and a heat advisory remains in effect. The forecasted turbulent weather may cause profuse spotting and high-intensity fire behavior in active drainages.

The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has implemented a closure order for much of the fire area, and a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) remains in place over the fire. Drone activity is prohibited under the TFR.

The communities of Chelan, Manson, and Stehekin remain open to visitors. Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels and adhere to all evacuation orders and fire restrictions in place.
