AppleSox dominate Falcons in doubleheader sweep, Peery shines with seven hits

KELOWNA, British Columbia -- The Wenatchee AppleSox capitalized on a stellar performance from Cannon Peery to sweep a doubleheader against the Kelowna Falcons on Tuesday night at Elks Stadium. The victories strengthened Wenatchee's position in the West Coast League standings.

In the opening game, Peery's three singles and two runs scored propelled the AppleSox (31-16, 13-7 second half) to a commanding 7-1 win. The second game saw Peery continue his hot streak with four more hits, leading Wenatchee to an 8-4 victory.

Quincy Vassar (3-3) etched his name in the AppleSox record books during the first game, allowing just one run over five innings. His performance pushed his career innings pitched to 124.2, setting a new franchise record. In the nightcap, Micah Bujacich (1-2) provided crucial relief, delivering three shutout innings from the second through the fourth.

Wenatchee's offense proved relentless throughout both contests. The AppleSox jumped to an early lead in Game 1, scoring two runs in the second inning and never looking back. Evan Cloyd's sacrifice fly in the third extended the lead, while a four-run sixth inning, highlighted by Jonathan Fitz's two-RBI single, sealed the win.

The second game saw Wenatchee overcome an early 1-0 deficit with a decisive four-run third inning. Cloyd again played a key role, doubling in a run, while Brady Bean and Kanoa Morisaki drew bases-loaded walks. Hunter Friedberg's sacrifice fly capped the rally.

Kelowna threatened in the sixth inning of Game 2, scoring twice to narrow the gap to 5-4. However, Andrew Monson's clutch strikeouts stranded the tying and go-ahead runs, preserving Wenatchee's lead. The AppleSox added three insurance runs in the seventh to secure the sweep.

The doubleheader sweep continues a trend for Wenatchee under head coach Mitch Darlington, who has now won all four doubleheaders since taking the helm in 2022. The AppleSox will aim for their fifth series sweep of the season in Wednesday's finale at Elks Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
