CHELAN — The Stayman Fire near Chelan is now 86% contained, officials reported Friday, August 23.

The fire, which started on August 20, remains at 3,118 acres. Firefighters have successfully lined the fire with retardant, dozer lines, and hand line.

Authorities announced that the Level 1 Fire Advisory will be removed as of 7:00 am on Saturday, August 24. This change comes as containment increases.

192 personnel are currently assigned to the incident, up from the 167 reported previously. Resources include eight crews, ten engines, one helicopter, and one water tender.

Crews are focusing on mopping up and securing the northern edge of the fire. This process involves extinguishing any remaining heat along the fire's perimeter, with firefighters working to mix water into burnt areas.

While the Level 1 Advisory will be lifted, residents are advised to stay informed through Chelan County Emergency Management's social media channels and the county's Emergency Incidents Map for any further updates.

As containment objectives are met, some resources will be released from the incident and made available for initial attack responses in the area.

Officials stated this would be the final daily update for the Stayman Fire unless significant changes in fire activity occur. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
